The day our lives changed forever. Maybe the date should have given me a clue – multiples of THREE?

Yes people its triplets.

Never in a hundred years did I think I would have MY name attached to the word TRIPLETS. Shocking doesnt even describe the emotion when you get told how many babies you are having.

We got to the clinic bright and early and I was almost hyperventilating from anxiety. So the sister suggested that she scan me quickly just to put my mind at rest whilst I waited for the doctor. She inserted the wand and on the screen we saw what I can only describe as follies on an ovary. Four in total. So she says its definitely twins, maybe triplets and even a possibility of quads. We at least saw 2 heartbeats so we managed to breathe again until the doctor arrived about an hour later. When he scanned me he confirmed that we have 3 good heartbeats (over 150bpm) and we even had a fourth that stopped growing. ALL FOUR IMPLANTED. Can you even handle this? After 6 IVF’s, one of those we put back FIVE and the other two were from donor eggs and we got ZIP. It boggles my mind, totally and utterly boggled.

My doc has already confirmed that I will need a high risk gynae and a cervical stitch inserted. At least I have a good medical aid and also good sick leave benefits at work. I think Im gonna need it.

The problem is that my symptoms are so flippn wishy washy that I was certain we would have maybe 1, maybe none. Nausea is on and off and when I told the sisters that Im not REALLY that nauseous they were rather surprised and said I should count my lucky stars. My bo.obs have been sore but nothing outrageous, a bit of heart burn and hunger thats about it. I thought that these things got worse with multiples?

My next scan is on the 28th June, Ill be 10 weeks then.

PS pics posted in tab above.

Whoa holy crapballs! I just don’t understand this IVF lark, it really seems that when one sticks they all stick. Do they form a little gang or something in the petri dish? I think I’m as shocked as you are! Congrats my friend, seems you didn’t need the fertility massage after all!

    Holy CRAP! Congratulations!

My best advice is to buy a mini crossword you can keep in your handbag, and ALWAYS bring water and a snack to the high risk doctor. They keep you waiting FOREVER. We routinely waited two hours.

Hey Dee-my heart stopped a little bit when I saw that! And I must say–I predicted more than twins from the get-go:) That being said, I will now direct all my energy towards you having a safe and healthy pregnancy. My goodness gracious–triplets. I can scarcely get my brain around it! CONGRATS!!!

I can’t tell you how excited and happy I am.

And a bit scared but your doc is right – straight to a high risk doc for you ๐Ÿ™‚

If I were you, I’d go straight onto bed rest from like 14 weeks and do NOTHING until they arrive LOL

(just think of all the movies you can watch and books you can read)
